Abstract:
El castellà i el valencià són les llengües oficials del País Valencià, però la seua presència i ús són desiguals. En aquesta superposició entre dues llengües, el castellà ocupa una posició hegemònica i el valencià una posició subordinada, la qual cosa provoca una diversificació de les seues funcions i dels seus àmbits d’ús, i l’adscripció de cada varietat (i dels seus parlants) a un estatus sociocultural específic. Els comportaments diglòssics i el bilingüisme de les persones valencianoparlants evidencien l’existència d’un conflicte lingüístic, que alhora és un conflicte sociopolític. Parlar de llengua al País Valencià és parlar de conflicte. L’objecte d’aquesta tesi és estudiar la presència i l’ús del valencià en l’àmbit comercial, un espai essencial de relació quotidiana. Per tal d’apropar-nos a l’objecte d’estudi s’ha dissenyat una articulació metodològica qualitativa i quantitativa: grups de discussió, per a conèixer els discursos socials sobre el valencià i la seua presència en el comerç; observació participant, per estudiar el paisatge lingüístic comercial (visual i sonor); i enquesta, per a conèixer la distribució de les posicions discursives sobre la llengua en la societat valenciana. Els resultats del treball de camp mostren un paisatge lingüístic comercial castellanitzat, amb una baixa vitalitat etnolingüística del valencià, encara que cal matisar que el valencià té major presència sonora que visual. Els posicionaments discursius són polars envers el lloc que ha d’ocupar el valencià, la promoció de la llengua i el futur desitjat (normalització-substitució lingüística). La política lingüística d’aplicació en l’àmbit comercial és deficitària (quasi inexistent), i el laissez faire ha accelerat el procés de substitució de la llengua pròpia i la normalització del conflicte. La tesi es concep des de l’òptica de la sociologia amb orientació pública, és a dir, conèixer la realitat per a transformar-la, per això aquesta investigació acaba amb propostes d’actuació encaminades a impulsar la normalització lingüística en l’àmbit comercial. ; Spanish and Valencian are the official languages of the Valencian Community, but their presence and usage are unequal. In this superposition between the two languages, Spanish occupies a hegemonic position, whereas Valencian has a subordinate position, which causes a diversification of its functions and fields of use, and the ascription of each variety (and its speakers) to a specific sociocultural status. The diglossic behaviours and bilingualism of Valencian-speaking people show the existence of a linguistic conflict, which is also a socio-political conflict. Speaking of language in the Valencian Community is speaking of conflict. The purpose of this thesis is to study the presence and use of Valencian in the business sphere, an essential space for daily relationships. In order to get closer to the object of study, a qualitative and quantitative methodological articulation has been designed: discussion groups, to learn about social discourses on Valencian and its presence in commerce; participant observation, to study the commercial visual linguistic landscape and soundscape; and survey, to know the distribution of discursive positions on the language in the Valencian society. The results of the field work show a commercial Spanish linguistic landscape, with a low ethnolinguistic vitality of the Valencian, although it must be pointed out that Valencian’s soundscape is more prominent than its visual presence. The discursive positions are polarised towards the place that Valencian should occupy, the promotion of the language and the desired future (linguistic normalization-substitution). The language policy applied in the business sphere is deficient (almost non-existent), and the laisser faire has accelerated the process of substituting one's own language and the normalization of the conflict. The thesis is conceived from the point of view of publicly-oriented sociology, that is, to understand the reality in order to transform it, which is why this research ends with proposals for action aimed at promoting linguistic normalization in the commercial sphere.
