Abstract:
Dans le sillage du General Service List et de l'Academic Word List, les études en phraséologie identifient des patterns et motifs pertinents pour l'enseignement de langues dans un cadre universitaire. Dans le domaine des sciences, la causalité est un thème essentiel qui nécessite souvent des structures lexicogrammaticales spécifiques. La métaphore grammaticale, selon laquelle les notions complexes ont tendance à adopter des formes stables sur le plan linguistique, est caractéristique de cette langue fortement codée. Ce chapitre adopte une approche de linguistique de corpus afin d'examiner certains adverbes conjonctifs liés syntaxiquement avec un verbe en -ing. Pour cela, les 8 900 publications en anglais de 137 revues de BioMed Central du corpus Scientext ont été interrogées afin d'extraire les adverbes thus, thereby et therefore. La présente étude révèle que chaque adverbe est employé avec une variété de collocations verbales et de conjugaisons, dans un contexte rhétorique distinct. Within the sciences, causality is an essential theme that often requires specific lexico-grammatical structures. Grammatical metaphor, in which complex notions tend towards more stability through grammatical expression, is characteristic of this highly coded language. This paper takes a corpus linguistics approach to examining certain conjunctive adverbs syntactically linked to a verb in -ing. For this, the 8,900 publications from 137 journals of BioMed Central parsed in the Scientext English corpus were queried for the adverbs thus, thereby, and therefore.
