Abstract:
As a researcher, Jiří Levý was active in unique periods of time for the development of the Humanities in the Czech Republic: He witnessed both Stalinist repressions and the relative freedom of the “golden” 1960s. With this perspective in mind, the following questions will be addressed: How did Jiří Levý respond to contemporary pressures; what were the links between his work and other texts on related topics at the time; to what extent were his theories accepted by his contemporaries, and what are the topics of his research that are still valued today? This study will involve the analysis of texts published between the 1950s and 1970s, a number of archival materials, and reflections on the reception of his work in contemporary Translation Studies publications. ; le travail de recherche de Jiří Levý s’est développé à une époque unique dans l’évolution des sciences humaines en République tchèque. Cette époque englobe autant l’ère de la répression stalinienne que la relative liberté de pensée pendant « l’âge d’or » des années soixante. Dans cet article, on se pose les questions suivantes : comment l’auteur a su réagir aux pressions de son époque? Quel a été le rôle de ses ouvrages par rapport à d’autres textes publiés au cours de la même période? Comment ses écrits ont été reçus par ses contemporains et quelles sont les thématiques liées à sa recherche qui sont estimées actuellement ? Cette étude comportera l’analyse des textes publiés entre les années cinquante et soixante, de même que des documents conservés aux archives tchèques, et des réflexions sur sa théorie publiées dans des ouvrages de traductologie à l’heure actuelle. ; El trabajo de Jiří Levý se desarrolló en una época singular para la evolución de las humanidades en la República Checa, que incluye tanto la etapa de la represión estalinista como la relativa libertad de pensamiento durante los “dorados” años sesenta. Las preguntas que nos planteamos en este artículo son las siguientes: ¿cómo el autor supo reaccionar ante las presiones de la época? ¿cuál fue el papel de sus obras en relación con otros textos publicados sobre el tema en el mismo período? ¿cómo sus teorías fueron recibidas por sus coetáneos y cuáles son los temas de su investigación que se valoran en la actualidad? El estudio se basará tanto en el análisis de los textos publicados entre los años cincuenta y setenta del siglo pasado, como en varios materiales que se conservaron en los archivos checos y en la recepción de su obra en los trabajos actuales.
