Abstract:
With this project, I aim to provide norms for 120 thematically, taxonomically or unrelated German word pairs that are familiar to children in early and middle childhood. With this set, I want to support the research community in their endeavour to study the development of children's sensitivity towards thematic and taxonomic conceptual relations throughout childhood. The item selection was made on the basis of a corpus-based pre-analysis. Thematic relatedness was based on the collocation measure t-score and taxonomic relations are measured based on the resnik score. In this project, I aim to validate the corpus-based item selection with a replication study of Landrigan's and Mirman's (2016) study of relatedness ratings. I will ask adult participants to rate the word pairs with regard to their similarity (taxonomic relatedness) and their co-occurrence (thematic relatedness) on a 7-point likert scale.
