Parkordnungen historischer Gärten aus sprachwissenschaftlicher Sicht

Abstract:
; The use of public parks and (historic) gardens is subject to park regulations, adopted by the owners or managers in an effort to control visitor behaviour. Park regulations are a means of steering user conduct in a way that minimizes the danger of attrition impacting the vegetation and the apperance of an historic garden. Park regulations also provide a legal basis for sanctioning undesirable behaviour as a misdemeanour. At the same time, however, they embody usage conflicts: Whereas, for the owners, park preservation is paramount, for the users, their own (leisure) experience takes priority. This article is the first attempt to undertake a linguistic text analysis of park regulations, based on the four parks examined by the Interdisciplinary Research Group »Historic Gardens and Climate Change« – Großer Tiergarten Berlin, Park Babelsberg, Wörlitzer Park und Branitzer Park.
