"Soziale Bedeutung" von Sprache im Spiegel des Austropop

Abstract:
Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit untersucht die „soziale“ Bedeutung von Sprache am Beispiel von ausgewählten Austropop-Songs von Wolfgang Ambros, Georg Danzer und Rainhard Fendrich. Grundlegende Annahme dabei ist, dass (gerade auch) in den 1970er- und 1980er-Jahren konventionell (und klischeehaft) im „kollektiven Bewusstsein“ verankert war, dass der (Wiener) Dialekt die Sprache der „Unterschicht“ und das Hochdeutsche die Sprache der „Mittel- und Oberschicht“ bzw. der Öffentlichkeit ist. Für das Phänomen Austropop kam also nur die Sprachvarietät der „Unterschicht“ in Frage, denn auf diese Art und Weise wurde mittels Dialekt unter anderem Protest, Rebellion, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Provokation, ein Zusammengehörigkeitsgefühl etc. ausgedrückt. Im Spiegel des Austropop können wesentliche (sozio-)linguistische Annahmen und Theorien als nützlich und berechtigt angesehen werden, nämlich dass Sprache viel mehr als nur den „eigentlichen“ kommunikativen Inhalt transportiert. Aus der Analyse ist erkennbar, dass sich Texte von Ambros und Danzer auf sprachlicher und thematischer Ebene von Fendrichs Liedern recht stark unterscheiden. Bildet bei Ambros und Danzer der Dialekt die „Matrixvarietät“, ist es bei Fendrich eine Art Mittelschichtsprache oder (gehobene) Umgangssprache. Bei Fendrich ist weiters das Kontinuum zwischen Hochdeutsch und Dialekt, das typisch für die kommunikativen Verhältnisse im Ballungsraum Wien ist, deutlich erkennbar. Bei allen drei Austropoppern ist Sprache, insbesondere aber der Dialekt, ein bewusst eingesetztes Stilmittel, das soziale Bedeutung transportiert. Dabei werden bevorzugt (sozial-)kritische, ironische oder sarkastische Effekte intendiert. ; This work examines the social meaning of language illustrated by selected Austropop lyrics of Wolfgang Ambros, Georg Danzer and Rainhard Fendrich. The thesis is based on the assump-tion, that especially in the 1970s and 1980s “collective consciousness” considered the (Viennese) Dialect as the language of the “lower class” and standard German as the language of “middle and upper class” as well as the language of the publicity. Austropop therefore used linguistic variety of the “lower class” to express rebellion, rock ‘n’ roll, provocation and soli-darity. Facing the Austropop, a number of (social-)linguistic hypothesis and theories may be considered as useful and find their justification, in particular that language transmits more than just the “real” communicative content. The analysis reveals that – based on a linguistic and thematic level – lyrics of Ambros and Danzer can be entirely distinguished from lyrics by Fendrich. While Ambros and Danzer use dialect as the “matrix-variety”, Fendrich uses a sort of middle class-language or (elevated) vernacular as the “matrix-variety”. In particular, Fend-rich demonstrates clearly the continuum between standard German and dialect, representative for the communicative relation in the conurbation of Vienna. All three Austropop-stars use language, especially the dialect, as a stylistic pattern, conveying the social meaning and thereby provoking social criticism, ironic and sarcastic effects.
