Abstract:
Im Mittelpunkt des Beitrags stehen die Herausforderungen von Roma-SchülerInnen (RS) und ihrer LehrerInnen in der Grundschule. Berichte nennen Eingliederungsschwierigkeiten in die Schule und unterdurchschnittliche Leistungen, allerdings ist wenig über die Barrieren bekannt, die den Zugang von RS zum Bildungssystem und ihren Schulerfolg erschweren. Um mögliche Barrieren zu identifizieren, erfasste eine Studie in England mittels Mixed Methods (Fragebögen, Interviews) die Erfahrungen von 17 LehrerInnen in der Arbeit mit RS und ihren Familien. Zusätzlich wurden 18 fünf- bis elfjährige slovakische RS befragt, ihre Englisch-Sprach-Kenntnisse und Schulleistungen ermittelt. Genannte Schwierigkeiten waren u.a.: fehlender Zugang zu Roma-Eltern (kulturelle und Sprach-Barrieren), inkonsistenter Schulbesuch von RS und mangelnde Unterstützung. Trotz hoher Lernmotivation lagen Sprachkenntnisse und Schulleistungen der RS insgesamt unter den Alterserwartungen, eine zusätzliche Herausforderung bestand darin, Sprachdifferenz von Sprachproblemen abzugrenzen. Auf Grundlage dieser Ergebnisse werden im Vortrag unter Einbezug aktueller Empfehlungen aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum Implikationen für die sprachtherapeutische Arbeit abgeleitet.
