Assim, esta tese teve como objectivo perceber o conhecimento dos pais/ prestadores de cuidados acerca do Desenvolvimento da Linguagem, considerando a importância e influência que estes têm nesse desenvolvimento. Para essa finalidade foi construído um Inventário. O Inventário foi construído para a faixa etária dos 5 anos com base nos comportamentos linguísticos que as crianças adoptam nessa idade e que estão descritos na bibliografia consultada. O presente trabalho constitui a análise do Inventário da faixa etária dos 5 anos, tendo sido este aplicado a uma amostra de conveniência de 136 pais/ prestadores de cuidados dos concelhos de Anadia, Espinho, Gondomar, Maia, Porto e Valongo. Verificou-se com este estudo que na faixa etária dos 5 anos, os pais/ prestadores de cuidados valorizam, de forma mais significativa, em termos de desenvolvimento linguístico, a área da Metalinguagem. Os comportamentos linguísticos que valorizam menos estão relacionados com a Fonologia. Considera-se que o aumento do conhecimento sobre o desenvolvimento da linguagem, associado a um papel mais activo por parte dos pais, reflectir-se-á numa futura redução da ocorrência de perturbações na área da comunicação, fala e/ ou linguagem. Concluímos que os resultados obtidos indicam a necessidade de construção e aferição para a população portuguesa, de um Teste de Rastreio para Problemas de Desenvolvimento da Linguagem acessível e direccionado a pais/ prestadores de cuidados, de forma a atribuir-lhes um papel activo no despiste precoce e na avaliação de problemas de desenvolvimento da linguagem das suas crianças. ; In what Early Intervention is concerned, the importance of natural contexts for child learning and development assumes an essential dimension, which consequently values the active involvement and participation of the family in all the different moments of the intervention process. So the goal of this dissertation was to understand the knowledge of parents/caregivers about Language Development, considering the importance, as well as the influence that they play in this process. For this purpose, a Survey of Language Development was developed. This Survey was created for the age groups of five-year-olds, having in mind the linguistic behaviors that children within these ages have, which are described in the bibliography. Thus, this dissertation is the analysis of the Surveys considering the five years old age groups. It has been applied to 136 parents/caregivers from the areas of Anadia, Espinho, Gondomar, Maia, Porto and Valongo. With this work, it was possible to find that in the five years old age group, the Metalanguage area is significantly valued by parents and caregivers, in what the linguistic development is concerned. The linguistic behaviors that these individuals value less are related to Phonnology. It is considered that the increase of knowledge about language development, associated with a more active role by parents will reflect in a future reduction in the occurrence of disturbances in communication, speech and / or language. We are able to conclude that the results indicate the need for the construction and elaboration of a Screening Test for Language Development Problems for the Portuguese population, accessible and targeted to parents and caregivers, giving them an active role in early screening, as well as in the assessment of the language development problems of their children.
