Abstract:
; This diploma thesis aims to counteract the often criticized lack of transfer of findings from language acquisition research into foreign language teaching in educational contexts and especially into the teaching materials. It discusses whether and to what extent the hypotheses of the Processability Theory according to PIENEMANN (cf. 1998, 2005) manifest themselves in texts written in Spanish by 96 students from various Lower Austrian high schools during an exam. Therefore, the role of L1 and L2 as well as the Processability Theory and its extensions are both outlined and discussed with regard to the history of this field of research and their classification in the scientific discourse. Afterwards, the points of contact between the scientific theory and the current Austrian curriculum for Spanish (especially with regard to the standardized final exams) will be worked out in order to create a more personalized and customized developmental sequence that is targeted at students who study Spanish as a foreign language at Austrian school classes. Based on this reconstructed developmental sequence, the 96 written performances will be evaluated using an implicational scale in order to obtain a basic overview and practical graphic representation of the final results. In conclusion, it can be shown that the developmental sequence for Spanish as L2/L3/LZ postulated by the Processability Theory can be verified within the written performances and thus within the linguistic development of the students, and that there are no deviations from the groups concerning the different textbooks or teachers. This result is supplemented by examples and interpretations, and the insights gained are summarized first theoretically, then with a prospect to future research initiatives and finally the usefulness for textbooks and teaching. Not least because of this result, a stronger implementation of scientific findings from different research areas and research approaches in foreign language teaching in general could prove to be efficient and useful in the future.
