** * DRAFT — Creating Social Agents: A BDI Model for the Social Behavior Spectrum ***
In: http://www.cs.umd.edu/~inon/papers/zuckerman11.pdf
Abstract: Models in sociology posit that the spectrum of social interpersonal behavior ranges from Altruistic behavior at one end, through Coop-eration, Individualism, Competition, and finally Aggression at the other end of the spectrum. While many BDI based models have dealt with different parts of these behaviors, none model the com-plete range of possibilities. We present a formal model Social Be-havior Activity (SBA) that spans the social behavioral spectrum and describes the mental states and behavioral axioms needed to sup-port the design of socially competent agents. The model extends common BDI formalisms by providing an extended description of relationship between agents ’ Desires and Intentions. We continue to explore the spectrum to discover the maximum benefit an agent can achieve when it belongs to different types of social groups, and present a way to tackle an arising “group membership ” com-putational problem by remodeling the problem as a 0-1 Constraints Satisfaction Problem. We then propose and evaluate few heuristics functions to guide the search process on large problems.
