Abstract:
Αφορμώμενη από το συχνό στην τραγωδία μοτίβο “γάμος-θάνατος”, που βασίζεται στα κοινά στοιχεία που εντοπίζονται στα τελετουργικά του γάμου και της κηδείας και στον διαβατήριο χαρακτήρα των δύο καταστάσεων, η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία εστιάζει σε τρεις παντρεμένες ηρωίδες, στη Δηιάνειρα, την Ευάδνη και την Άλκηστη, και αποτυπώνει τον τρόπο με τον οποίο οι αρνητικές συγκυρίες και συμφορές που κάθε μια βιώνει στον γάμο της οδηγούν στον θάνατό της, με τον σύζυγο να παίζει καταλυτικό ρόλο σε αυτόν. Ομοιότητες εντοπίζονται αναφορικά τόσο με τα κίνητρα που ωθούν τις γυναίκες αυτές στην απόφασή τους να πεθάνουν, όσο και με τα στοιχεία εκείνα που επιβεβαιώνουν τη διαπλοκή του γάμου και του θανάτου σε επίπεδο γλώσσας, τελετουργίας και επιμέρους συμβολισμών, ενώ ιδιαίτερη έμφαση δίνεται στη στιγμή του θανάτου των ηρωίδων, η οποία και στις τρεις περιπτώσεις παραπέμπει στο γαμήλιο τελετουργικό και στην αναβίωση της γαμήλιας νύχτας. Επιπλέον, προβληματισμός τίθεται και σχετικά με τη φήμη -και κατ’ επέκταση με τη δόξα- ... : Prompted by the frequent “marriage – death” motif in tragedy, which is based on the common elements found in the rituals of wedding and funeral, and the transitional nature of the two situations, this dissertation focuses on three married heroines (Deianeira, Evadne and Alcestis) and reflects how the negative circumstances and misfortunes that each one experiences in her marriage lead to her death, which is catalyzed by her husband. Parallels are detected with regard to the motivations that prompt these women to die, as well as to those elements that confirm the association of marriage and death on a linguistic, ceremonial and individual symbolic level, while the moment of the heroines’ death (which in all cases resembles the wedding ritual and the revival of the wedding night) is particularly emphasized. Furthermore, emphasis is laid on the acquired fame (and, by extension, on glory) that emerges as a result of the heroines’ deaths.
