Παναγιωτίδου, Θεοδώρα A.. - : Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 2021 Abstract: Η διατριβή αυτή μελετά τις δομές των δίπτωτων ρημάτων της σύγχρονης Αγγλικής (19ου -21ου αιώνα) που έχουν ως άμεσο αντικείμενο μια ονοματική φράση (ΟΦ) και ως έμμεσο αντικείμενο είτε μια προθετική φράση (ΠΦ) είτε μια ονοματική φράση (δομές με δυνατότητα εναλλαγής) καθώς και τους ενδογλωσσικούς παράγοντες που επηρεάζουν την χρήση των παραπάνω δομών εναλλαγής. Βασιζόμενοι σε προσεγγίσεις των Labov (1972) και της Bresnan και των συνεργατών της (Bresnan & Hay 2008; Bresnan & Ford 2010; Kendall, Bresnan & Van Herk 2011), αναλύουμε τις δομές ως ποικίλλοντες τύπους (variants) της ίδιας γλωσσικής μεταβλητής (linguistic variable) και διερευνούμε τα γλωσσικά περιβάλλοντα μέσα στα οποία εμφανίζονται οι δομές αυτές. Ενισχύοντας την υπάρχουσα έρευνα, εξετάζουμε τους τρόπους σύμφωνα με τους οποίους οι παράμετροι της διαχρονίας και της μετάφρασης από την Ελληνική προς την Αγγλική επηρεάζουν τόσο τη συχνότητα της εμφάνισης των δομών με ΟΦ ή ΠΦ ως έμμεσο αντικείμενο σε μεταφρασμένα και μη μεταφρασμένα κείμενα όσο ... : This dissertation focuses on the late history of the dative alternation (19th- 21st cent.) in English, the alternation between a double object and a prepositional object construction, and on the constraints that influence the choice between the two dative constructions. Following the recent literature, the constructions are viewed here as semantically equivalent variants belonging to the same linguistic variable, as alternating depending on the context and their inbetween differences as preferences rather than categorical regularities. Preferences that are in fact, gradient both across space and time as evidenced by the literature pointing to historical and cross-varietal differences in the quantitative use of the constructions and the strength of the constraints that drive the alternation (Bresnan & Hay 2008; Bresnan & Ford 2010; Kendall, Bresnan & Van Herk 2011).
