Dieses Buch führt in das grundlegende Wissen über Wörter und Wortschatz der deutschen Sprache ein. Es geht dabei vom lebendigen allgemeinen Interesse an Wörtern und Wortschatz, ihrem Werden und Wandel aus und versammelt 29 Kapitel zu Themen wie Wortbedeutung, Mehrdeutigkeit, Wortzerlegung, Bedeutungserschließung, Wortschatzdidaktik, Wörterbücher, Wortgeschichte, Fremdwörter, Fachwortschatz, Wortkritik u.a. Damit wählt das Buch einen anderen Zugang als die klassischen sprachwissenschaftlichen Einführungen in die Lexikologie oder Wortkunde, die ihren Gegenstand sachsystematisch erläutern. Dieses Buch versucht, insbesondere den Fragen von Lehramtsstudierenden und Lehrkräften zum Thema gerecht zu werden. Dabei fußen sämtliche Antworten und Darstellungen auf korpuslinguistischen Methoden und arbeiten mit entsprechenden Beispielen.
