Verbs with Alternating Transitivity in Children with Developmental Language Impairment ...
- : Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 2019
Abstract: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the repetition of sentences containing unaccusative verbs by children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). Children with DLD have been shown to be impaired in the use of constructions involving movement, such as reversible passives and relative sentences. Unaccusative verbs present an interesting dichotomy, in that they can surface with nonactive morphology, and as such have the same surface structure as other non-active constructions, but different deep structures; unaccusative verbs with active morphology move their deep – structure object to the subject position. Therefore, it is hypothesised that children with DLD will have problems producing and understanding sentences containing unaccusative verbs with active morphology, but not ones with passive, relative to their typically developing (TD) peers. ... ...
