Abstract:
The aim of the present paper is to analyze the pronunciation of alveolar and bilabial fortis plosives in syllable onset positions for the standard language use of German in rural areas of Austria. Using language data originally elicited by the linguistic special research program “German in Austria. Variation – Contact – Perception”, a quantitative analysis was carried out to investigate the impact of (socio)linguistic and methodologi-cal parameters on phonetic variation for 16 non-professional speakers from four dif-ferent dialect regions of Austria. The results reveal that the standard language pronun-ciation of /t/ and /p/ is mostly affected by the method of elicitation and the formality of the situation, respectively. While reading tasks show high percentages of aspirated variants and low numbers of weakened stops for all territories except for the Southern Bavarian region, oral dialect-standard-translation tasks and spontaneous speech in semiformal interviews evoke a higher rate of plosive lenition. ... : Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der phonetisch-phonologischen Variation der silbenanlautenden alveolaren sowie bilabialen Fortisplosive /t/ bzw. /p/ in der Standardaussprache von ungeschulten Sprecher_innen aus ruralen Gebieten Öster-reichs. Anhand von auditiven Sprachdaten, welche im Rahmen des Spezialforschungs-bereichs „Deutsch in Österreich (DiÖ). Variation – Kontakt – Perzeption“ erhoben wur-den, wird der Gebrauchsstandard von 16 autochthonen Proband_inn_en aus vier un-terschiedlichen Dialektgebieten Österreichs mittels einer quantitativen Korpusanalyse auf (sozio)linguistische sowie methodologische Einflussparameter untersucht. Hierbei konnte gezeigt werden, dass die Standardaussprache von Fortisplosiven sowohl von innersprachlichen als auch von extralinguistischen Faktoren gesteuert wird.
