Eyetracking and EEG correlates of common ground information: a combined eyetracking/EEG study in a real-world environment ...
Brilmayer, Ingmar. - : Open Science Framework, 2022
Abstract: In the present study, we examine the processing of common ground information in a real-world environment as measured by eye tracking (ET) and electroencephalography (EEG) using mobile equipment. We use a referential communication game called the Director's task, in which a participant is instructed by a second participant (the director, often a confederate) to move objects around in an N-by-N array (Glucksberg et al., 1975; Krauss and Glucksberg, 1977; Keysar et al., 2000). Crucially, not all slots of the array (i.e. a 4x4 IKEA Kallax shelf in the present study) are visible to the director, that is, some objects are occluded. If now a triplet of similar objects (e.g. candles) of different sizes (small, medium, large) are included inside the array and, say, the large candle is occluded from the directors view, what is the medium sized candle for the participant is the large candle for the director. This is called a mismatch in common ground information: the participant knows more than the director. Data by ...
