Abstract: Deriving directly from the cultural consequences of the globalization, postcolonial sexual liberalism exposes, with increasing complexity, the different uses of bodily pleasures in the postcolonial. This sexual liberalism acts as a hotbed of the social imaginary conducive to the creation of new bodily and sexual cultures. Therefore, postcolonial sexual liberalism should be understood as a kind of dispositif for creating sexual and bodily subjectivities. This lies around a consensus that turns the practice of pleasure into a new contemporary aesthetics of “self-care” (cura sui). Such pragmatic of oneself is provided socially through the auspices of an imaginary which celebrates a “duty to enjoy” (devant-jouir), thus dispossessing postcolonial subjects of any sexual agency. According to the phantasmagorical logic alimenting the hedonistic imaginaries of such global societies, postcolonial subjects consume bodily pleasures from a dynamic of intimate relations which they structure with the consumer culture promoted by the globalisation of neoliberal capitalism.
