Abstract:
This recording was made at a wake keeping the night before the funeral of Geoffrey Adjabeng, a clan leader. The men gathered at one of the meeting places in the village and spent the night giving speeches, singing and drinking. This event was recorded by Sammy. No outside observer was present. This recording includes some songs, conversation and a speech. It has not been transcribed or translated. On this recording, the people who attend the wake keeping are first singing a comfort song in Ewe. Then there is some drumming and people talk amongst themselves in Avatime. Then they sing songs in Twi. There is some talking in Avatime at the end, but I do not know by who. The songs are in Ewe and Twi. The conversation is in Avatime. Most people present sing. Some people can be heard having a conversation, I do not know who they are. I also do not know the name of the person who speaks at the end of the recording. Sammy records. ; Language_Name: Avatime Language_Region: Africa Language_Country: Ghana Project_Status: Complete Year: 2008 Start_Date: 2008-05-01 End_Date: 2008-12-31
