; The Research Productivity Grant from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) is intended for researchers who have stood out in their field of expertise. The general objective of this research was to evaluate the profile of CNPq’s Research Productivity grantees in the Health Sciences area, with a current grant in 2021, and the demands for this grant (2018-2020). Document analysis was used to evaluate the criteria for awarding the grant and bibliometric and scientometric indicators and additional profile indicators were applied to evaluate the 1,634 grantees. Data were collected from CNPq and Lattes Curriculum. From the analysis of the criteria established for the triennium 2018-2020, it was identified that there is a difference among the six Advisory Committees of the Health Sciences area: Nursing; Pharmacy; Medicine; Physical Education, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy; Dentistry; and Public Health and Nutrition. Regarding the profile, there was a greater number of grantees in the Medicine Advisory Committee (33.4%), at level 2 (55.9%) and in the Southeast region (67.2%). The percentages of female and male grantees were similar. There was a higher prevalence of grantees aged between 50 and 59 years (33.7%) and who obtained a doctorate between 1996 and 2005 (49.5%). Regarding the training of human resources, it was found that, in the orientations in progress, the average of orientations per grantee was higher in the doctorate level; in completed orientations, the average was higher in scientific initiation and master levels. There was a difference in the distribution of the number of articles among the six Advisory Committees and the number of articles per researcher did influence the level of grant received, as level 1A grantees were more productive compared to grantees from other levels. There was a drop in the percentage of demand met by CNPq: in 2018, 76.3% of the researchers whose requests had their technical-scientific merit recognized were awarded a grant; in 2020, this percentage was only 47.8%. The present study brings important contributions to the field by evaluating the Health Sciences area in an integral way based on diversified indicators and its results may provide support for improving the scientific and technological development policy in the field of health.
