Abstract:
1855 kam der Forscher Heinrich Barth von einer mehrjährigen Reise durch Westafrika zurück. Er brachte zwei junge Afrikaner nach Deutschland und England mit, die sein Kollege Adolf Overbeck um 1852 in Kukawa aus der Sklaverei freigekauft hatte: den Hausa Dorugu und den Margi Abbega. 1856 kamen sie in Kontakt mit dem Missionar und Sprachforscher Jakob Friedrich Schön, der sie als Gehilfen für seine linguistischen Arbeiten ihn seinen Dienst nahm. Dorugu diktierte ihm seine Lebensgeschichte, die Schön als „The Life of Dorugu“ 1885 veröffentlichte. Abbega kehrte 1857 und Dorugu 1864 nach Afrika ins heutige Nigeria zurück, wo sie zunächst für die Church Missionary Society (CMS) und dann für die britische Kolonialverwaltung tätig waren. ... : In 1855, researcher Heinrich Barth returned to Germany and England following a journey of several years through West Africa. He brought along two young Africans whom his colleague Adolf Overbeck had bought out of slavery in 1852 in Kukawa: Dorugu, a Hausa, and Abbega, a Margi. In 1856, they established contact with missionary and linguist Jakob Friedrich Schön, who hired them as assistants for his research work. Dorugu dictated to him his life history, which Schön published in 1885 under the title: “The Life of Dorugu.” Abbega and Dorugu returned to what is now Nigeria in 1857 and 1864 respectively, where they first worked for the Church Missionary Society and later for the British colonial administration. ...
