Abstract:
The data contained within the “General Catalogue” are sound files (.WAV) made from original tapes recordings, made during the period of August 1949 – December 1997. This eclectic mix of recordings covers material that is now both of historical interest and to the wider area of linguistics and the beginning of research into synthetic speech. The data cover a wide range of material from songs, poems, readings, pronunciations, and languages to interviews on fashion, living in Edinburgh, and with various aspects of life at the time with people born in the late 1800’s. An interesting overview of the work at this period of time, “50th Anniversary of Establishment of Phonetics Dept., University of Edinburgh, September 1998” given by J.
