Die MigrantInnen und in den letzten Jahren auch die Flüchtlinge machen insgesamt ca. ein Fünftel der Gesamtbevölkerung im Land aus. Die Darstellung beider Gruppen in den Medien ist ein wichtiger Faktor für ihre Integration in die Gesellschaft. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird die Medienberichterstattung über die Flüchtlinge und die MigrantInnen vor, während und nach der Flüchtlingskrise im Jahr 2015 im Rahmen von einer Inhaltsanalyse verglichen. Die Analyse umfasst Artikel aus der Qualitätszeitung „Der STANDARD“ und aus dem Boulevardblatt „Kronen Zeitung“. Die Ergebnisse beleuchten eine reflektierte Wortwahl der Qualitätszeitung. Trotzdem ist sie in der insgesamt negativen Berichterstattung der Boulevardzeitung sehr ähnlich. Sowohl Flüchtlinge als auch MigrantInnen werden in einem negativen Licht und meist als Objekte statt als Handelnde in den Nachrichten dargestellt. Ein Linguistic Intergroup Bias wurde für beide Gruppen festgestellt. Die Berichterstattung über Flüchtlinge spiegelt in den drei untersuchten Jahren die Dynamik der Flüchtlingsbewegung wider. In Bezug auf die MigrantInnen bleibt sie über die Zeit unverändert. Diese Gruppe ist in der Berichterstattung deutlich unterrepräsentiert. Die Medien haben eine wichtige Rolle für die Integration von Minderheiten in die Gesellschaft und für den Abbau von Vorurteilen, weshalb eine diverse und ausgeglichene Berichterstattung notwendig ist. ; Austria is one of the most popular immigration countries in Europe. Immigrants and, recently, also refugees make up one fifth of the country´s population. The media representation of both groups of people is an important component to their integration in society. This paper explores the media coverage of these groups, immigrants and refugees, in two Austrian daily newspapers – the quality newspaper “Der STANDARD” and the tabloid “Kronen Zeitung”. The content analysis comprises a selected time frame before, during and after the refugee crisis of 2015. The results show awareness about the word choices of the quality newspaper. However, both newspapers report mostly about negative events and with negative terms. Both refugees and immigrants are presented in a negative light and most often as objects of news instead of active characters. The Linguistic Intergroup Bias was confirmed for both groups. The news coverage about refugees in all three years mirrors the movement dynamics of refugees. The news coverage of immigrants has not changed over the three years. They are underrepresented when compared to their important role in society. The media is essential in the integration of minority groups in society and for prejudice reduction within majority groups. A diverse and balanced media coverage is vital for achieving these goals.
