Abstract:
International audience ; The article presents a semiotic analysis of the measurement of the obliquity of the ecliptic, a fundamental measurement that is simple enough to be analyzed in its entirety and rich enough to have a general scope. He shows that the realization of such a measurement requires on the one hand juxtapositions, which imply taking into account the materiality of the mathematical expressions, and on the other hand interpretations, constitutive of the objectivity of the measurement but which can also be replaced by others or ignored. The possibility of ignoring these interpretations is a condition of both the use of science and its cumulative progress, ignorance being thus recognized as an essential spring of the diffusion and development of scientific knowledge. ; L'article présente une analyse sémiotique de la mesure de l’obliquité de l’écliptique, mesure fondamentale et suffisamment simple pour qu'une analyse complète puisse en être faite et assez riche pour avoir une portée générale. Il montre que la réalisation d'une telle mesure nécessite d'une part des juxtapositions, qui impliquent la prise en compte de la matérialité des expressions mathématiques, et d'autre part des interprétations, constitutives de l'objectivité de la mesure mais qui peuvent aussi être remplacées par d'autres ou ignorées. La possibilité d'ignorer ces interprétations est une condition aussi bien de l'usage des sciences que de leur progrès cumulatif, l'ignorance étant ainsi reconnue comme un ressort essentiel de la diffusion et du développement de la connaissance scientifique.
