Abstract:
Metáforas gramaticais caracterizam a linguagem técnica e são recorrentes no registro acadêmico escrito, produzindo efeitos no fl uxo de informação do texto, tais como a criação de um termo técnico resumidor, a condensação de informação e a remoção do tempo e dos atores ou responsáveis pela ação, provas ou argumentos. De natureza qualitativa e interpretativa, este artigo tem como objetivo analisar construções metafóricas no fl uxo de informação em textos produzidos por alunos brasileiros ingressantes em contexto acadêmico. O corpus compõe-se de 384 textos resultantes de cinco tarefas, que propiciaram o trabalho semântico-discursivo e lexicogramatical com o texto escrito. A análise buscou identifi car e sistematizar as ocorrências de construções metafóricas e seus efeitos no texto. Para tanto, recorreu-se ao conceito de metáfora gramatical na perspectiva da linguística sistêmico-funcional de Halliday (1985; 1994; 2014) partindo-se da hipótese que os textos produzidos pelos alunos ingressantes apresentam construções metafóricas que contribuem para o fl uxo e para a qualidade informacional do texto escrito. Os resultados revelaram baixa ocorrência de construções metafóricas. O estudo contribui para o mapeamento da habilidade de escrever de alunos ingressantes em contextos acadêmicos e aponta caminhos para práticas didático-pedagógicas que visam ao letramento acadêmico. ; This study addresses the effect of metaphorical constructions present in the information fl ow in texts written by novice writers in a Brazilian academic context. Halliday conceives of grammatical metaphors as constructions/wordings realized in the lexicogrammatical stratum of the language which allow for the “variation of the expression of meanings” (1994:341). Metaphorical wordings create higher lexical density and complex grammatical constructions in technical and academic texts. Ideational grammatical metaphors produce an effect in the information fl ow of the text allowing for “the creation of abstract technical terms; for the condensation of previous information into a single word that can be used to move the text along; for the effect of removing time and agents responsible for actions” (Fatonah, 2014:90). The hypothesis of this study was that the written texts produced by novice writers in academic contexts contain metaphorical constructions which contribute for the information fl ow and for the informational quality of the texts. The nature of this study is qualitative and interpretive; its corpus comprises 384 texts written by Brazilian students enrolled in the fi rst semester of an undergraduate Course of Letters. The texts resulted from fi ve different writing tasks. The data were analysed to identify and systematize the metaphorical constructions and their respective effects in the texts. The results revealed low occurrence of ideational grammatical metaphors. The study contributes to mapping the writing ability of novice writers and to (re)consider pedagogical writing practices of academic literacy.
