Abstract:
The aim of this project is to investigate how young children acquire verbs by examining the relative influence of certain cues hypothesised to be involved in verb acquisition. More specifically, whether and to what extent perception of linguistically relevant concepts, linguistic input, and vocabulary skills inform verb learning. The relative ease or difficulty of verb extension in the different conditions will be informative in determining the influence of biases and linguistic understanding in verb learning. An existing longitudinal dataset will be analysed to explore this topic. ...
