Interpréter les pronoms phrastiques

Abstract:
International audience ; Cet article s'intéresse aux pronoms anaphoriques que nous nommons phrastiques, c'est-à-dire dont l'antécédent, ou l'interprétation, est typiquement un matériau phrastique ou propositionnel. Le pronom le dans " [Marie parle japonais]1. Mais Jean ne le1 sait pas. " en est un exemple. Cette classe de pronoms soulève plusieurs difficultés pour l'analyse à l'interface syntaxe-sémantique dans une théorie linguistique formelle. Nous montrons d'abord que cette classe est peu homogène et qu'il y a très peu de contraintes syntaxiques, sémantiques et pragmatiques qui pèsent sur la résolution possible de ces pronoms. A cela s'ajoute la question de la nature précise de la relation anaphorique qui permet de définir formellement le processus d'interprétation de ces pronoms. Nous examinons et comparons deux grands types d'approches : la première conçoit la relation anaphorique comme référentielle (au même titre que ce qui est habituellement retenu pour l'analyse des pronoms anaphoriques standard, i.e. individuels); la seconde la conçoit comme une relation de surface entre des constituants. Nous montrons que ces deux approches posent des problèmes théoriques non triviaux, et cela nous amène à proposer une solution d'analyse qui réhabilite et aménage l'approche référentielle en lui donnant une dimension pragmatique qui fait intervenir la référence aux actes de langage.
