Ungarisch-Gotische Beziehungen

Abstract:
In dieser Arbeit habe ich versucht zu eruieren, ob Kontakte zwischen Goten und Ungarn möglich gewesen wären. Dazu habe ich in erster Linie archäologische und schriftliche Quellen herangezogen, um einen Zirkelschluss mit der Linguistik zu verhindern. Auf Basis dieser Quellen konnte ich zeigen, dass es nicht unwahrscheinlich scheint, dass der gotische Stamm der Tetraxiten im frühen Mittelalter in der Nähe von Ungarn gelebt hat. Nachdem ich die Arbeitshypothese auf historischer Basis legitimiert habe, fokussierte ich mich auf den linguistischen Aspekt. Dabei stütze ich mich auf eine Liste ungarischer Wörter unbekannter herkunft, die im Annex von Zaicz' etymologischen Wörterbuch aus 2006 vorzufinden ist, wobei ich die Wörter dieser Liste in alphabetischer Reihenfolge mit den Einträgen in Gerhard Köblers gotischem Wörterbuch verglich. Außerdem fasste ich die wichtigsten Kommentare zur Wortherkunft aus demTESz, dem noch immer renommiertesten ungarischen etymologischen Wörterbuchs, zusammen. Danach versuchte ich, wo möglich, neue Etymologien für ungarische Wörter zu finden, die auf das Gotische zurückgehen würden. Dabei ging ich vor allem auf phonologische und phonotaktische Argumente ein. In nähere Betrachtung wurden nur semantisch eindeutige Übereinstimmungen gezogen. Das Ergebnis teilte ich am Ende in drei Teile: Wörter, für deren Ableitung aus dem Gotischen ich keine festen Gegenargumente fand und die in einer weiteren Forschungsarbeit näher erforscht werden sollten. Wörter, für deren Ableitung ich Ansätze fand, die aber phonotaktische oder phonologische Probleme aufweisen. Und Wörter, für die ich keinen Erklärungsansatz finden konnte. Alle hier vorgeschlagenen Etymologien sind nur Erklärungsansätze. Die Beziehungen zwischen dem Gotischen und Ungarischen waren noch nie Subjekt einer tiefergehenden Erforschung. Daher ist diese Arbeit eher als Gedankenanstoß konzipiert und umfasst somit auch eine relativ große Zahl von nicht sehr detailliert erforschten Wortgeschichten. Fehler in Etymologisierungsversuchen kann ich nicht ausschließen. Solche etwaigen Fehler aufzuzeigen wird die Aufgabe zukünftiger Forscher sein. ; In this work I tried to find out if contacts between Goths and Hungarians would have been possible. I primarily used archaeological and written sources to prevent a circular argument with linguistics. Based of these sources, I have been able to show that it seems not unlikely that the Gothic tribe of the Tetraxites lived in the early Middle Ages near Hungarians. Once having legitimized the working hypothesis on a historical basis, I focused on the linguistic aspect. I am using a list of Hungarian words of unknown origin, which can be found in the Annex to Zaicz's etymological dictionary from 2006. I compared the words in alphabetical order with the entries in Gerhard Köbler's Gothic dictionary. In addition, I summarized the most important commentaries on each word origin fromTESz, still the most prestigious Hungarian etymological dictionary. Afterwards I tried, where possible, to find new etymologies for Hungarian words that would originate from Gothic. My main focus was on phonological and phonotactic arguments. I took only those words into consideration where the semantics were clearly coinciding. In the end, I divided the result into three parts: words for whose derivation from Gothic I found no firm counterarguments, and which should be explored further in future research work. Words for whose derivation I found approaches that have phonotactic or phonological problems. And words whose origin I couldn't explain by a relation to Gothic. All etymologies proposed here are only rudimentary approaches. The relations between Gothic and Hungarian have never been the subject of in-depth research. Therefore, the aim of this work is rather to provoke thoughts than to propose definite etymologies. Thus, it includes a relatively large number of word histories not explored in detail. I cannot rule out errors in trials to etymologize words. To point out any such mistakes will be the task of future researchers.
