POUR UNE APPROCHE SEMANTIQUE DU TERME ET DE SES EQUIVALENTS

Abstract:
The author of this article holds the view that the inexorable evolution of multilingual dictionaries towards databases renders all methodological distinctions between terminography and lexicography obsolete. The use of computers implies a highly refined identification of data, as a result of which, in representational terms, monosemy precedes polysemy. Based on this observation regarding an imminent methodological convergence, the author will attempt to show that it is possible to teach termino-graphy by using classical lexicological and lexico-semantic tools, without necessarily having to go through the concept, as is traditionally suggested by terminology manuals. The demonstration will focus on the problems relating to meaning and on the search for equivalents.
