Die Problematik der Synchronisation englischsprachiger Filme ins Deutsche anhand der Beispiele "Singin' in the Rain" (1952) und "Ingourious Basterds" (2009)
|

Abstract:
; In this paper I am demonstrating – as the title is telling – the problems, which come up, when you are dubbing a movie from English to German, on the examples Singin’ in the Rain and Inglourious Basterds. I categorised them in problems in the run-up to the synchronisation, problems of creativity, linguistic and paralinguistic problems as well as problems which are referred to the language itself. These topics include among other things the challenge of film title translation, lip sync, puns and humour, but also censorship and quotations as well as dialects and culture-specific items. All these and other issues need the skills, long lasting know-how and the right touch of the dialogue author. Among the dialog director the voice actor has a leading role too. He has to put the offered text exactly on the lipmovement of the role actor, but also has to intone the right emotion. This way the figure has the possibility to work as one unit, although the language isn’t the same anymore. But before I get to this practicality, I offer a short introduction in the audiovisual translation of cinematic materials. Furthermore an interview with the well known voice actor Peter Faerber shows the process of synchronisation in the point of view of an announcer and the film production in common. As a performer, voice actor and director he offered a wide range of useful information, which helped me writing my degree dissertation. Moreover the Austrian sound designer Philipp Mosser answered questions in reference to synchronization, sound and other hands-on problems.
