; Gifted children are those who, when compared to their peers, have significantly higher performance in a specific domain of knowledge. Giftedness usually generates differences in the processing of cognitive and linguistic information. Thus, the investigation of neuropsychological functions in children with gifted characteristics is relevant for expanding the understanding of these individuals' cognitive-linguistic functioning. This study aimed to describe the neuropsychological profile of a preschooler with suspicion of giftedness, based on information that came from family and school reports. The present study was based on a single case study design and had as a participant a male preschooler aged six years and five months, enrolled in a kindergarten class of a public school in the city of Porto Alegre (RS). A set of tasks assessing emergent reading and writing, alphabet knowledge, phonological awareness, phonological memory and central executive, cognitive flexibility, automatic naming of colors and objects, expressive vocabulary, and narrative comprehension were administered to the participant. Furthermore, the information from neuropsychological assessment has been complemented by the child's mother's report of the linguistic aspects promoted by the family environment. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. In the quantitative analysis of the data from the neuropsychological assessment, the participant demonstrated average or above-average performance in most tasks, except for cognitive flexibility, in which his performance varied from very low to average. In the qualitative analysis, the participant demonstrated retelling skills and narrative production similar to his peers. Well-developed emerging reading and writing skills were also observed, as well as metacognitive skills. The participant performed within the average for the age group or higher in several cognitive-linguistic functions, in agreement with the literature on giftedness. Although the aim of the study is not to establish a diagnosis, the performance observed in the case could indicate a potential for a higher cognitive-linguistic capacity, which would only be confirmed if it were further investigated. Therefore, it is expected that the present study can contribute to the expansion of scientific knowledge on the subject. Moreover, it is also expected that information on the neuropsychological functioning of preschoolers with superior cognitive-linguistic skills can provide subsidies for interventional practices in order to develop these individuals’ potential.
