偏鄉小學實施英語線上教學之個案研究 ; A Case Study on an English Online Tutoring Program at a Rural Area Elementary School

Abstract:
本研究在探討一所偏鄉小學實施英語線上課輔期間,小學伴、大學伴及小學端的行政人員對此英語課程的看法。研究對象為七位小學生、七位大學生,以及此偏鄉小學一位行政人員。資料收集包括課堂觀察記錄、大學生平時的教學記錄,以及課程結束後與小學生和大學生的訪談記錄。在為期十週、每週四十分鐘的課堂上,研究者在課堂中進行觀察並做紙筆記錄,並根據與小學生和大學生的訪談記錄,進行後續分析。 本研究採用質化研究法。研究結果發現,小學伴對此英語線上課輔滿意、在課堂上表現正向的學習態度,小學伴認為此課程幫助他們提昇說英語的自信,也期許日後在英語學習上有更好表現。大學伴都有積極正向的動機來參加此英語線上課輔,大學伴對於小學伴在此課程中的學習表現感到滿意,也認為參加此英語線上課輔課程能提昇他們的英語教學能力。小學端的行政人員也認為此英語線上課輔提供偏鄉小學學生更多英語學習的機會,值得推薦給其他小學,以解決許多學校現階段所遭遇之英語教學的困境。 ; This study aimed to explore the perceptions of the online students, the online tutors and the supervisor toward an English online tutoring program implemented in a rural area elementary school. The participants included seven online students from the elementary school, seven online tutors from a university and the supervisor of the elementary school. The data collected for analysis included classroom observation records, the teaching journals from the online tutors, and the transcripts of the semi-structured interviews with the online students and with the online tutors. During the ten-week program the online students interacted with their online tutors for forty minutes per week. The researcher took classroom observation records during the video conferencing lessons, and analyzed the collected data after this English online tutoring program was completed. This study followed a qualitative research design. The major findings are as follows. First, the online students were content with this English online tutoring program and displayed positive attitudes during the process. They also thought that this program helped enhance their confidence in English learning and expected to have better performance in English in the future. Second, the online tutors were content with their online students’ performance during the process as well. They thought that this program helped improve their skills of teaching English. Third, the supervisor perceived this program as a useful resource to help elementary school students get more opportunities to learn English. The English online tutoring program was highly recommended to the rural area elementary schools to enhance the English learning, so as to solve some difficulties of English teaching in elementary schools. It is also suggested that the online students be tested before the program begins to help the online tutors understand their prior knowledge of English, and that the online tutors take some training courses of English teaching to ensure the quality of implementing an English online tutoring program.
