Cerebellum and linguistic prediction ...
Portier, Tessa. - : Open Science Framework, 2022
Abstract: This research aims to investigate the role of the cerebellum in language prediction. The role of the cerebellum in cognitive processes is theorized to be similar to its role in motor processes; creating feedforward models based on internal and external information. By comparing top down expectations and bottom up input, the cerebellum can implicitly predict future events and optimize automatic behavior. This proposed mechanism would also be very useful in the cognitive process of linguistic prediction. Previous research revealed some important pieces of the cerebellum-language puzzle: earlier research into the neural processes of linguistic prediction showed an important role for oscillatory activity, especially in the alpha-beta frequency band, and previous cerebellum language research found that cerebellar tDCS on the right posterolateral area affects performance on language prediction tasks. But some questions remain open about how the neural oscillations are involved in the different steps of the ...
