Abstract:
O presente relatório de estágio tem como objetivo a apresentação e análise de questões linguísticas, concentrando-se em questões lexicais, levantadas no decurso do estágio curricular realizado no Camões, Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, no âmbito do Mestrado em Tradução da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa. O trabalho desenvolvido no contexto deste estágio consistiu na tradução e retroversão de vários textos de caráter técnico, dos quais foram selecionados dois que serviram de base de recolha dos casos aqui tratados. O critério de seleção dos textos teve em conta o facto de estes serem mais desafiantes para o processo de tradução e pela sua significativa extensão, que nos permitiu constituir um corpus de análise bastante diversificado e consistente. O primeiro texto trata-se de um manual de avaliação de ações levadas a cabo em contextos de conflito e fragilidade e o segundo é relativo a um conjunto de escalas de avaliação para a aprendizagem de línguas estrangeiras. O relatório encontra-se dividido em três partes principais. A primeira parte, onde é apresentada a entidade de acolhimento do estágio curricular, através de um pouco da sua história e da sua organização interna, e onde é feita também uma descrição do funcionamento do estágio, bem como dos textos traduzidos durante o seu decurso e do método de trabalho adotado. Na segunda parte é feita uma pequena apresentação da Tradução enquanto objeto de estudo, bem como da sua importância histórica, e é dada especial atenção à Tradução Técnica e suas principais envolventes, como o papel do tradutor, o papel do público-alvo e os tipos de textos técnicos mais comuns. A terceira parte é dedicada à análise dos problemas de tradução mais desafiantes identificados em dois dos textos traduzidos no contexto do estágio. Serão inicialmente apresentados exemplos de termos pertencentes ao léxico especializado das áreas técnicas dos textos trabalhados, acompanhados de uma discussão do processo de tradução dos mesmos, e posteriormente são apresentadas expressões pertencentes ao léxico comum, divididas entre casos de ambiguidade lexical, falsos amigos, fraseologias, perífrase, empréstimos e phrasal verbs. A secção relativa à ambiguidade lexical, devido à heterogeneidade dos casos discutidos, encontra-se dividida em casos em que se verificam contrastes na abrangência do significado das expressões e em casos nos quais se verificam contrastes relacionados com o comportamento linguístico das expressões. No primeiro caso trataremos casos de vagueza na língua de partida, de polissemia na língua de partida e de especificidade da significação na língua de partida, enquanto que no segundo serão tratados casos de restrições de seleção, de distribuição sintática, fenómenos de co-seleção e contexto de uso. ; This internship report aims to present and analyse linguistic phenomena, focusing on lexical phenomena, identified in the context of translation work developed during the curricular internship carried out at Camões, Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, as a part of the master’s degree in Translation at Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa. The work developed within the scope of this internship consisted of the translation and retroversion work of different technical texts, two of which will serve as a basis for collecting the cases discussed in this report. The selection of the aforementioned texts took into consideration their challenging nature and extension, which allowed us to compile a corpus of diverse and consistent linguistic data for analysis. The first text is an evaluation manual on measures carried out in settings of conflict and fragility, and the second text is related to a set of evaluation scales designed to assess foreign languages’ learners. The report is divided in three main sections. The first section is where the hosting organization is presented, through some information about its history and its internal organization. The internship is also described in this section, as well as the texts translated under its scope and the work method adopted. In the second part, Translation is presented as an object of study, as well as its historical importance. In this part a special attention is given to Technical Translation and its main elements, such as the role of the translator, the role of the audience and the most common types of technical text and their characteristics. The third part focuses on the most challenging translation problems occurring in the two texts translated and considered in this report. In the first place, examples related to specialised terms will be provided, along with a discussion of their translation. Subsequently a compilation of problematic expressions belonging to the common lexicon is presented. Different phenomena are identified. Therefore, the part of the report dedicated to comon lexicon is divided in several subsections dedicated to lexical ambiguity, false friends, phraseology, periphrasis, borrowing and phrasal verbs. The chapter concerning lexical ambiguity, due to the heterogeneity of the cases discussed, is further divided into cases in which contrasts in the coverage of expression meaning can be identified and cases which show contrasts in the linguistic behaviour of the expressions involved. Cases of vagueness in the source language, polysemy in the source language and cases of specificity of the meaning in the target language will be discussed. Within the scope of the section dedicated to polysemy cases of selection restrictions, syntactic distribution, co-selection phenomena and contexts of use will be considered and analysed.
