Abstract:
International audience ; In the context of the establishment of French theatre by the French authorities in the new departments on the left side of the Rhine, competition prevailed between French and German theatrical companies in Trier and Aachen during the French period (1794-1814). Despite the authorities’ support, French theatre didn’t manage to become established in the Roer and Sarre departments. Besides the unfavorable political and economic context, some regulations and laws about theatre penalized German as well as French companies. Above all linguistic differences prevented the German audience from appreciating French plays and the vast majority of the local public didn’t identify with republican culture. The directors of the companies tried to remedy the problem by modifying the repertoire by giving greater importance to musical genres (comic opera, singspiels), spectacular theatrical shows and ballets or mime shows. ; Dans le contexte de l’implantation du théâtre français dans les nouveaux départements de la rive gauche du Rhin souhaitée par les autorités françaises, la concurrence entre troupes françaises et allemandes prédomine à Trèves et à Aix-la-Chapelle pendant la période française (1794-1814). Malgré le soutien des autorités, le théâtre français ne parvient pas à s’implanter dans les départements de la Roer et de la Sarre. Outre le contexte politique et économique peu favorable, certains règlements et lois sur le théâtre pénalisent les troupes allemandes comme françaises. Mais surtout, la différence linguistique empêche les spectateurs allemands d’apprécier les pièces françaises et la grande majorité du public local ne s’identifie pas à la culture républicaine. Les directeurs de troupes cherchent à y remédier en faisant évoluer le répertoire vers les genres musicaux (opéras comiques, singspiels), les pièces à grand spectacle et les ballets ou pantomimes.
