Abstract:
One of the main characteristics of being human is having emotions and feelings. Emotions and feelings are play- ing a major role in many important human activities, such as decision making and planning. They also play a crucial role in design. However, due to our limited neurophysiologic and neuropsychological knowledge, they are often inaccessible to external or third person observation and study. In spite of great advancements in neuroscience, in particular in brain imaging, much of the neural mechanism of our emotions and feelings is still veiled in mystery. While this mystery makes it hard to deal with related problems, we propose a model that can help exploring and changing emotional states in a design setting. This model is based on the work of leading neuroscientist Antonio Damasio and the founders of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (or NLP, a language-based psy- chotherapeutic approach), Richard Bandler and John Grinder. ...
