Abstract:
This experiment addresses a number of shortcomings in our previous study on weak and strong crossover. In brief, we substantially improve the quality of the stimuli, control for a range of pronouns (singular they vs. masculine vs. feminine) and test "true" strong crossover as well as the original (secondary) strong and weak crossover, making this a 3x3x2x2 design (pronoun x "strength" x binding/crossover x bound/coreferent reading - see details). We restrict ourselves to WH-crossover for the time being, and use both coreference readings of the same sentences as well as binding as a baseline.
