The Implementation Process and Effects of American English Incorporated Teaching in Kindergartens
Abstract:
; This research aims to explore the transition process, implementation difficulties, and effectiveness of preschool from traditional subject-based English teaching to integration-based English teaching. The research subject is a private preschool in Kaohsiung City. Research data collection methods included semi-structured interviews, observations, and document collection. Data analysis is based on the qualitative orientation. Research results are listed below: 1. The transformation process of integration-based English teaching: (1) Integrating the sentences often used in daily life into the teaching content; (2) Enhancing children’s English impression through repeated sentence learning; (3) Arranging the classroom environment to create a whole language environment. 2. Difficulties encountered in the implementation of integration-based English teaching and their solutions: (1) Preschool teachers have insufficient English abilities so they are not confident in speaking English with children; (2) Teachers have any questions about how to conduct integration-based English teaching. The above two difficulties have been improved after professional counseling and teacher empowerment workshop. 3. Teaching implementation and effectiveness after the curriculum transformation: integration-based English teaching is conducted through routine activities, classroom transfer activities, outdoor activities, classroom activities, rhythms, and festive activities. The effectiveness of integration-based English teaching is positive. Children are most motivated through English rhymes and musical activities.
