Journées d'étude Les usages politiques et sociaux de l'insulte, Sciences Po (Université de Lille); Centre d'études et de recherches administratives, politiques et sociales (Ceraps, Université de Lille), Oct 2020, Lille, France. ⟨halshs-03060244⟩Voir aussihttps://webtv.univ-lille.fr/grp/516/les-usages-politiques-et-sociaux-de-insulte/ ; International audience ; The objective here is to explain the extent to which direct insult has become today, in politics, a form of pragmatic nonsense and can therefore only advance in a masked form ( Romain & Fracchiolla 2015, Fracchiolla 2019b), in indirect formulations, by allusion or irony, and often described as insulting by opposing third parties. Gendered, sexist insults against women are aplenty in politics (deputies associated with the cackling of hens (2013) or the bleating of a goat (2017) during a speech in the hemicycle; refusal of the feminized title of President speaking to Sandrine Mazetier by Julien Aubert (January then October 2014), discrimination which consists in sending women back to their stoves or to childcare, etc.). While they are often directly sexist when addressed to women, we will see why and to what extent attacks and insults in politics generally often rely on detours and rhetorical figures that make it possible to make them indirect ( see, for example, the notion of indirection from the angle of courteous attack or aggression to the emissary third party (Fracchiolla, 2011; 2012); or even discursive euphemization (2019)). Because beyond certain cases, which have become rare enough to be taken up in the media, where the insults are direct and clearly identifiable as such, the insult rarely boils down to isolated words or expressions that treat the other of; they are constructed most of the time in the political context, with euphemistic finesse and allusive circumlocutions (Laforest & Vincent, 2006). I will thus show to what extent and for what reasons the insult, if it is always present in politics, has nevertheless changed in nature in its methods of expression over time (Oger 2012, Bouchet 2010, Fuligni 2011, Baudot and Rozenberg , 2011). This will lead me to put it into perspective in the balance of the political and electoral game, in terms of confidence in speech, changes in societal values, representations and what is understood more broadly by the notion of "disqualification in the political game – based on Goffman's notion of face (1975). Because, if the political context is not strictly speaking a hierarchical context, the object of the confrontation in and by the debate nevertheless remains to bring out a dominant and a dominated – so that one can emerge in a high position and , ultimately, win the election. Also, in this context, it is the social meaning of the insult that takes precedence, because it is public and intended to tip the electoral balance and therefore also the destiny of a country. More generally, the reading proposed here of the insult in politics will lead to consider it from the perspective of the promise (and therefore of the betrayed trust). ; L’objectif est ici d’expliquer dans quelle(s) mesure(s) l’insulte directe est devenue aujourd’hui, en politique, une forme de non-sens pragmatique et ne peut par conséquent qu’avancer sous une forme masquée (Romain & Fracchiolla 2015, Fracchiolla 2019b), dans des formulations indirectes, par allusion ou ironie, et souvent qualifiées d’insultantes par des tiers opposants. Les insultes genrées, sexistes à l’égard des femmes sont pléthores en politique (députées associées au caquètement des poules (2013 ) ou à un bêlement de chèvre (2017 ) lors d’une prise de parole en hémicycle ; refus du titre féminisée de Présidente en s’adressant à Sandrine Mazetier par Julien Aubert (janvier puis octobre 2014), discrimination qui consiste à renvoyer les femmes à leurs fourneaux ou à la garde des enfants , etc.). Alors qu’elles sont souvent directement sexistes lorsqu’elles s’adressent aux femmes, nous verrons pourquoi et dans quelle mesure les attaques et insultes en politique s’appuient de manière générale souvent sur des détours et figures rhétoriques qui permettent de les rendre indirectes (voir par exemple la notion d’indirection sous l’angle de l’attaque courtoise ou de l’agression au tiers émissaire (Fracchiolla, 2011 ; 2012); ou encore l’euphémisation discursive (2019)). Car au-delà de certains cas, devenus assez rares pour être repris dans les médias, où les insultes sont directes et clairement identifiables comme telles, l’insulte se résume rarement à des mots ou expressions isolées qui traitent l’autre de ; elles se construisent la plupart du temps dans le contexte politique, en finesse euphémistique et circonlocutions allusives (Laforest & Vincent, 2006). Je montrerai ainsi dans quelle mesure et pour quelles raisons l’insulte, si elle est toujours présente en politique, a néanmoins changé de nature dans ses modalités d’expression au fil du temps (Oger 2012, Bouchet 2010, Fuligni 2011, Baudot et Rozenberg, 2011). Cela m’amènera à la mettre en perspective dans la balance du jeu politique et électoral, en termes de confiance dans la parole, de changements des valeurs sociétales, de représentations et de ce que l’on entend plus largement par la notion de « disqualification » dans le jeu politique – en s’appuyant sur la notion de face de Goffman (1975). Car, si le contexte politique n’est pas à proprement parler un contexte hiérarchique, l’objet de la confrontation dans et par le débat demeure cependant de faire émerger un dominant et un dominé – afin que l’un puisse émerger en position haute et, in fine, emporter l’élection. Aussi, dans ce contexte, c’est la signification sociale de l’insulte qui prime, car publique et destinée à faire pencher la balance électorale et donc aussi le destin d’un pays. Plus globalement, la lecture proposée ici de l’insulte en politique mènera à l’envisager dans la perspective de la promesse (et donc de la confiance) trahie.
