Abstract:
L’objectif de cette contribution est double : donner un aperçu du contexte sociolinguistique dans lequel la francophonie manitobaine évolue actuellement et décrire certains traits saillants des variétés de français parlé au Manitoba par l’exploitation de corpus de langue. La situation de la communauté francophone du Manitoba est généralement qualifiée de « minoritaire ». Nous distinguons les niveaux macro et microlinguistiques pour examiner la question de la minorisation du français et pour contextualiser le fait français dans la province. Les variétés de français du Manitoba sont essentiellement issues du français laurentien. Afin d’illustrer certaines de leurs particularités, nous présentons les caractéristiques de trois corpus de français collectés depuis une vingtaine d’années dans la province, ainsi qu’une sélection de traits linguistiques que ces corpus permettent de décrire. ; Perspectives on the Francophone community of Manitoba: contextual and descriptive considerationsThe present article has a double objective: to provide insight into the sociolinguistic context in which Manitoba’s Francophone community is presently evolving and, on the basis of analyses of linguistic corpora, to describe certain salient features of the varieties of French spoken in Manitoba. The Francophone community in Manitoba is generally described as a “minority”. The article points out the relevant macro- and micro- linguistic levels to examine the issue of its minority status and to contextualise the French phenomenon in that province. The varieties of French in Manitoba are essentially derived from Laurentian French. In order to illustrate certain particularities of Manitoban French, the article presents three French corpora collected in the province over the last 20 years as well as a selection of linguistic traits which may be identified in these corpora.
