Transfer in the acquisition of ECM clauses by catalan learners of english
Abstract: The syntactic structures in our L1 and those in a L2 can sometimes coincide, but this does not always occur. Hence, some of the errors that L2 learners make result from making a parallelism of the mother tongue, and when this occurs we deal with 'transfer' errors. In this piece of research the issue of transfer has been applied to Catalan learners of English, who were expected to make transfer errors where English and Catalan embedded finite and non-finite clauses do not coincide. More specifically, my object of study was ECM clauses, whose syntactic structure is not found in Catalan. In order to test my hypothesis, a grammaticality judgment task was carried out and the results showed that L2 learners make transfer mistakes from their L1 in the stages where the language acquisition process has not been completed. ; Les estructures sintàctiques de la nostra primera llengua i les d'una segona poden coincidir, però no sempre és així. Per tant, alguns dels errors que cometen els aprenents d'una segona llengua es produeixen pel paral·lelisme de la seva llengua materna, i quan això passa lidiem amb "errors de transferència". In aquest petit treball el concepte de "transferència" ha estat aplicat a estudiants catalans que aprenen anglès com a segona llengua, dels quals s'esperava que cometessin "errors de transferència" on les subordinades "finites" i "no finites" en anglès i en català no coincideixen. Més concretament, el meu objecte d'estudi eren les "ECM clauses", estructura sintàctica de les quals no existeix en català. Per provar la meva hipòtesi, es va dur a terme una "tasca de jutjament gramatical" i els resultats van mostrar que els aprenents d'una segona llengua cometen "errors de transferència" de la seva primera llengua en les fases on el procés d'adquisició de la llengua no ha estat completat.
