Implementing interventions
Baker, Elise (R20118); Williams, A. Lynn. - : U.S., Paul H. Brookes Publishing, 2021
Abstract: Implementing intervention approaches for children with speech sound disorder (SSD) can be complex. Implementation requires speech-language pathologists (SLPs) to make multiple decisions, such as what to work on, when, how, and where. Interventions are also dynamic. SLPs need to faithfully implement interventions in accordance with the developers’ intention yet also tailor interventions in accordance with individual children’s needs to ensure success. The ability to select suitable approaches, then provide ongoing and nuanced tailoring, evolves as clinician’s clear and accurate understanding of the approaches couples with their clinical experience. This chapter outlines how SLPs can approach learning about the various intervention approaches discussed in this book using the Phonological Intervention Taxonomy and how they can implement those interventions with acceptable fidelity.
