Do people do structural reanalysis when they encounter an implausible sentence? ...
Yu, Yue. - : Open Science Framework, 2021
Abstract: People might misinterpret an implausible sentence (e.g., the man bit the dog) as ‘the man was bitten by the dog’ or ‘the dog bit the man’. When they misinterpret the implausible sentence, they may use structural reanalysis to interpret this implausible sentence (e.g., revising an active structure to a passive structure). Alternatively, they may use semantic reanalysis to interpret this implausible sentence (e.g., changing an agent and a patient position directly). We replicate Cai & Pickering's (2021) study to further tease apart structural reanalysis and semantic reanalysis during the processing of an implausible sentence. ...
