日常会話における「~れば」の意味機能
Abstract:
; Students learning Japanese as a second language learn a suffix -reba as a type of conditional when the suffix is attached to the conditional form of verbs, for example Haru ni nareba, Sakura ga sakimasu. “(Literally) If spring comes, cherry blossoms start to bloom.” Many other studies investigate the distribution of the forms -to, -reba, -tara, and -nara, as the conditional forms in Japanese. And it had been proposed that -reba form tends to be used in written language, whereas -tara form is preferred in colloquial expressions. In this study, the analysis of -reba form has been conducted with groups of preceding verbs and co-occurring expressions in the consequent clauses. The Corpus of Everyday Japanese Conversation (CEJC) provided by National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics was utilized to extract -reba examples in natural conversation. The result shows that there is a divergence of usage between -reba form introduced in Japanese language textbooks as a typical conditional sentence, and -reba form spoken unconsciously in daily conversation. The result helps to fill a gap of the semantic function and makes Japanese language education more applicable.
