Abstract: Auf dem Imageboard 9gag.com werden Sprachcodes und popkulturelle Referenzen als Stilmittel eingesetzt, um ästhetische Wahrnehmungs- und Handlungsräume im Netz zu erzeugen, in denen sich die Nutzenden als Kommunikations- und Sehgemeinschaft erfahren. Die Meme- Kommunikation stellt hier ein prägendes kommunikatives Muster dar. In der Untersuchung des 'Try not to cry'-Memes zeigt der Artikel, wie im Rahmen kollektiver, partizipatorischer Bild-Praktiken der Gefühlsausdruck des Weinens und die damit verbundenen Emotionen bei Männern erörtert und ausgehandelt werden. Eine besondere Rolle spielen dabei die metakommunikativen Funktionen bildspezifischer Eigenschaften und humorvoller Rahmungen, die es den Nutzenden ermöglichen, stigmatisierte Themen zu artikulieren. Der Artikel beschreibt, wie die Meme-Praxis auf 9gag das Reden über männliche Tränen ermöglicht und so einen digitalen Artikulationsraum für männliche Gefühle schafft.
