The theoretical frame of the denomination is mobilized to understand how the discourse publicize cross-border territories whose existence is not self-evident in Europe. The analysis focuses on a multilingual corpus (6 languages, 160 texts, 117878 words) and 153 contextualized occurrences of proper names of Euroregions. First, the article describes their referential characteristics (truncations, acronyms, initialisms) by comparing them to other toponyms. Then, the discursive processes (popularization, personification) that contribute to make Euroregions social actors are identified. Finally, the observation of the enunciators (elites and notorious cross-border figures) quoted by the media discourse shows how social recognition of Euroregions is developed in the press. The results show how are publicized the search for cross-border legitimacy and the competition with the ideal-type of a Europe of states. The study concludes with the fragility of the social recognition of multiple and shifting identities in Europe and with the opportunity offered by Euroregional names to install transnational openness and multicultural identities. ; Dans cette communication, nous observons la construction de référents politico-administratifs émergents – les eurorégions – dans le discours de presse. Le cadre théorique de la dénomination est mobilisé pour comprendre comment le discours médiatise des territoires transfrontaliers dont l’existence ne va pas de soi en Europe. L’analyse porte sur un corpus multilingue (6 langues, 160 textes, 117 878 mots) et sur 153 occurrences contextualisées de noms propres d’eurorégions. L’article décrit d’abord leurs caractéristiques référentielles (troncations, acronymes, sigles) en les comparant à d’autres toponymes. Ensuite, les procédés discursifs (vulgarisation, personnification) qui contribuent à faire des eurorégions des acteurs sociaux sont identifiés. Enfin, l’observation des énonciateurs (élites et figures notoires frontalières) cités par le discours médiatique montre comment s’élabore la reconnaissance sociale des eurorégions dans la presse. Les résultats montrent comment sont médiatisées la quête de légitimité transfrontalière et la concurrence avec l'idéal-type d'une Europe des États. L’étude conclut sur la fragilité de la reconnaissance sociale d’identités plurielles et mouvantes en Europe et sur l’occasion offerte par les dénominations eurorégionales d’installer une ouverture transnationale et des identités multiculturelles.
